Within God's Light

Isaiah 9.2-7

Darkness everywhere
and hopeless despair...
Where is God?
We need his help
but feel his rod.
We need him here,
but in our fear
have turned aside
to other guides.
Where is God?
We didn’t serve
and now deserve
our painful lot,
and in the dark
have lost the mark
of our depart.
Shamed and spurned
we’ve not returned –
we’ve lost our heart
and lost our way!

Yet in this dark
we see a light –
the light of God
is shining bright!
He offers hope!
He offers grace
to bring us home
and will forgive
so we can live!

To us, he says,
a child is born,
a son is given!
Wonderful Counsellor,
mighty God,
everlasting Father,
Prince of peace.

However dark
the world may be,
within God’s light
we now can see!
