Bethlehem Ephrathah

When Samuel came
to Bethlehem,
nobody considered
that Jesse’s youngest son,
David,
should be called
before the prophet.
He was just
doing his job –
shepherding the flock.
Yet he became
the measure
of true royalty
in shepherding
his people.

And now, Bethlehem,
still too small
to be listed
among the cities
of Judah,
yes, Bethlehem,
you are the place
where a greater
than King David
will be born!

Lowly place
and one of low estate
God weaves
in his eternal plan
to rescue
rebel man.
