At Your Service

Mary of Nazareth,
promised to Joseph,
yet unwed,
hearing
what the angel said,
“You will bear
the Son of God”,
freely chose -
“I am the servant
of the Lord.
May it be to me
as you have said”.

Privilege
and burden,
joy
and pain!
Unknown,
uncertain!
Still safe to be
the servant
of the Lord.

Lord,
in your lesser calls
upon my life,
you ask no less
than that I be
freely
and wholly
available
for your will.
I never know
the whole,
yet would I be
ever
at your service!
