Bible References: En-Gedi ("spring of the kid") is a lush area of fresh-water springs, waterfalls, pools and tropical vegetation in the middle of arid Dead Sea landscape. It was in the area allotted to Judah at the conquest (Joshua 15.62). David and his men, pursued by Saul, took refuge there (1 Samuel 23.29ff). King Jehoshaphat received a report that an army of Moabites and Ammonites were already in En-Gedi (2 Chronicles 20.2). Song of Songs speaks of vineyards there (Song of Songs 1.14).
