Background: The Dead Sea Scrolls consist of several documents from the Old Testament and writings of a sect at Qumran near the Dead Sea widely believed the Essenes. They were accidentally discovered in 1947 by a Bedouin shepherd boy. They are now housed in the Shrine of the Book, part of the Israel Museum.
