The day the Olympic Torch came through Home Hill, Q.


On Saturday 24 June 2000, the Olympic torch came through Home Hill, Queensland, on its way to Sydney 2000.

Home Hill Uniting Church elder, Bill Lucas, who was part of the torch relay for the Olympics in Melbourne in 1956, was one of the runners on this occasion too.

The crowd is entertained by the Rancho Buena Vista High School band from California while they wait for the arrival of the Olympic torch.

Passing the flame
The flame, lit in Athens, is passed from runner to runner.

Carrying the flame
Bill sets off on his run. The flame is alight, though hard to see in the midday sun. The flame is heading north before making its way south to the Games venue in Sydney in September.
