Reaching up and out

The hermit crab
lives
in the solitude
of a borrowed shell,
making
fearful
tentative sorties
for food,
quick
to retreat
at the slightest
disturbance.

Sometimes,
wounded
by others
or by circumstance,
we hide away
untrusting
in our private shell.

Yet the Lord
is ever faithful,
our help and hope.
With confidence
reach up -
live
in his love and grace.
It is his world -
reach out
with love and grace
to all around.
