Immanuel

At the centre of our history
it happened.
God came
in Christ
with love
and for our rescuing,
Immanuel -
God with us.

At the centre of our humanity
he came,
Son of God,
and Son of Man,
bearing the heat and burden
of our day,
bearing our sin and hatred
for our rescuing,
Immanuel -
God with us.

At the centre of our life
he calls us still,
as of old
by Galilee
he called the fishermen
to learn of him,
to go for him.
For our rescuing
and the world's rescuing
he calls and sends,
Immanuel -
God with us.
