Christmas Joy

See him in the manger there,
the first-born son to virgin fair,
no other place for them at all
unless he lay
upon the hay
within a cattle stall.

Now he takes a loyal band
to teach and heal throughout the land -
yet still he has no certain home.
Some gladly hear,
but others fear
and are not glad he’s come.

Watch him on a Roman cross -
"For us the gain, for him the loss,"
his hard opponents think.
But dying pain
has brought us gain
to save us from our sin.

The body born from Jewish womb
is laid to rest in Jewish tomb.
But soon the grieving eyes can see
the tomb is bare!
He isn’t there!
Alive to set us free!
