Bible References: Bethlehem is the place where Rachel died (Genesis 35.19). It is the setting for the story of Ruth and Boaz (Ruth 1-4). Their descendent, King David, came from there (1 Samuel 16). The prophet Micah prophesied that another king would come from Bethlehem (Micah 5.2). In response to Herod's query, the chief priests and teachers of the law quoted this prophecy as indicating the birthplace of the Messiah (Matthew 2.6). Jesus was born there (Matthew 2 and Luke 2). Bethlehem is now administered by the Palestinian Authority. Because of recent troubles, we were not permitted to enter it. We only viewed it from a distance - captured in just one photo.
